In 1927, a young aviator named Charles Lindberg made the first transatlantic flight linking New York to Paris aboard his plane the Spirit of Saint-Louis. The New York Times then wrote: “Lindy Hops The Atlantic.” This title inspired the dancer George Snowden known as “Shorty” who during an interview described the dance that was then developing in Harlem as lindy hop.
